The Monster has long needed a new brain. And this time, HE'S doing the choosing!!!

Our fourth Frankenstein installment brings our two friends..er..fiends from "Son.." back from the dead to fright again.  With Lugosi locked down, the producers had only one problem; Karloff didnt want to ruin the credibility of "his" Frankenstein with further sequals.  The producers pondered upon the full moon for the solution. The Wolf Man, to be precise.  If they couldnt have Karloff, they'd have the next best thing...Lon Chaney Jr.

ghost of frankenstein, bela lugosi, lon chaney jr. classic horror, Universal

With one of the greatest "resurrection" scene's of all the films, the monster outlives the sulfer he's pushed into in "Son of...", escaping with the aid of his old pal, Ygor.

Revived by lightning strikes to his neck bolts, Ygor takes the monster to the newest Dr.Frankenstein in town, Ludwig, son of the 'Son of Frankenstein.

After carefully examining the creature, Dr.Frankenstein determines the monster, while presently alive and strong, is slowly dying, and desperately requires a new brain.

Ygor is more than happy to offer his brain so as to become immortal..and unstoppable. But this time, the monster is more his own man-ster, and has come to a  few decisions of his own; like having the brain of a young child instead.

As with all of the classic Universal titles,  this is a fun monster flick to watch, and Lugosi and Chaney Jr. play it for all it's worth. And while I don't really care for the good guys walking toward a picturesque sunset to end the movie, it's a small price to pay for all the good ol' fashion monster carnage and meyhem that make this movies so much fun to watch.

Ygor sets his plan into action anyway, teaming up with Dr. Frankenstein's unscrupulous colleague Dr. Bohmer, as the deception is on. They actually succeed in the endeavers but, alas, sour tunes are played on the violin of reality and they lose sight of their plan....literally...as Igor's blood and the monsters do not match, making Monster Ygor to go blind. Causing him to lash out in a fury that does in everybody in his path.
